Fontana School Police Department

Significant Events

Radio System Upgrade - On May 21, 2008, the Fontana School Police Department began using the San Bernardino County Radio 800-trunking system. Fontana School Police Officers will benefit from this system, which provides a private primary and tactical channel, individual radio identifiers, emergency button feature, mutual aid communications with adjoining agencies (Fontana Police Department, San Bernardino County Sheriff, and Rialto Police Department), and valley-wide radio coverage. Officers were upgraded with the latest model handheld radios. This system upgrade allowed the department to utilize the capabilities of the 800-trunking and retain the previous 800 conventional system for school site emergencies.

Multi-Agency Truancy Sweep - On October 14, 2008, between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., the Fontana School Police Department, the Fontana Police Department, the District Attorney’s Office, and the Probation Department conducted a truancy sweep in the city of Fontana and in the County area of Fontana. Other participating agencies were FUSD Child Welfare and Attendance, Juvenile Probation, District Attorney’s Office, Department of Children Services, Department of Behavior Health, Department of Public Health, and Focus West. The truancy sweep was a success, resulting in the issuance of 50 citations. Since one of the Fontana School Police Department’s goals is keeping juveniles in school, look for more truancy sweeps in the future.

Campus Security became part of the Fontana School Police Department.

New Officers Sworn In - On August 6, 2008, Officers Kyle Crowther, Dennis Barnett, John Garcia, Louie Flores, Glenn Johnsen and David Wibert were officially sworn in by Superintendent Cali Binks.

Officer Cindy Evaro and The Parrot Patrol - Officer Evaro will be teaching Elementary School students the "Too Good For Violence" curriculum. She will start by visiting 4th graders at nineteen of our Elementary Schools. Officer Evaro will visit three to four Elementary Schools a week until their lessons are complete. She will begin in November 2008 and will start at Canyon Crest Elementary, Citrus Elementary and Juniper Elementary Schools. In December, Officer Evaro will be at Kathy Binks Elementary, Tokay Elementary, and Primrose Elementary Schools. Officer Evaro’s lessons will include visits from her feathered friends, the "Parrot Patrol". This is a great opportunity for students to learn an anti-violence program and allow a positive influence in the students’ lives.
