CIF Programs
The
purpose of athletics in the Fontana Unified School District is to follow the
California Interscholastic
Federation’s direction in preparing student athletes to practice ethical
behaviors including fair play, integrity and obedience to rules. All Fontana
Unified School District athletic contents will represent, in perception and
practice, the appreciation for athletic excellence and the shared educational
experiences of competition. All individuals associated with athletic activities
will be aware of and responsible for their influence on the behavior of others,
be models of good sportsmanship, and promote academic accountability.
Athletics in the Fontana Unified School District are also governed by
established Board Policy that guides the program and the decisions of school
site administrators and coaches.

Student
Athletic Participation
A student
interested in participating in athletics should first have their
academic and discipline records evaluated. Student athletes are
required to maintain a minimum G.P.A. and have no significant entries in their
discipline file. Once this can be verified, the student-athlete and their
parent/guardian must complete a paperwork process and be “cleared” by the site
athletic director before any tryouts, practice, participation or play.
Eligibility requirements are outlined by the state athletic organization in the
California Interscholastic Federation bylaws.
Additional
eligibility requirements includes a physical by a medical practitioner, a signed
“informed consent”, verification of insurance and a signed emergency form that
includes release for medical care and waiver of liability. These forms are
available from the school site Athletic Office.
