The Dedication for the Fontana Adult School and the
Groundbreaking for the new Citrus Continuation High School will be held in a
special joint ceremony on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at 2 pm. School officials
and members of the Board of Education will gather at the Fontana Adult School
to celebrate the beginning of one and the completion of another
of FUSD’s construction projects.
The new Fontana Adult School was previously home to Jurupa Hills
Elementary School and, more recently, Jurupa Hills Middle School. After it was no longer needed
as a sixth grade-only school, Architecture 4 Education designed modifications to the buildings and
grounds in order to accommodate its new purpose. The brand new Fontana Adult
School opened for business last month.
If you look directly over the back fence of Fontana Adult School, you will see the future home of Citrus
Continuation High School which is being built on 18.5 acres located on the
corner of Santa Ana and Cypress. Designed by NTD Architecture, the new 35
classroom facility
will have the capacity to house 909 students.
The construction is estimated to cost between $24-26 million and is funded through Measure C. Site preparation work is currently under way and construction will begin shortly
under the supervision of Paul C. Miller Construction. The staff of Citrus High School is very excited
as they’ve been
waiting a long time for the new campus - over twenty years, in fact. Their current facility opened back
in 1988 as a "temporary school." The new site is scheduled to open
in the 2011-12 school year.
Due to the two sites' close proximity, the joint ceremony will take place on the
Fontana Adult School located at 10755 Oleander Avenue in
Fontana.
