Important Information About our Local Neighborhood Schools
Our neighborhood schools serve one of the fastest growing regions in
California. Enrollment is expected to rise by approximately two elementary
schools a year for the next eight years. We need to upgrade, expand and build more neighborhood schools to accommodate
our rapidly growing population.
Even with the recent construction and planned openings of new schools
throughout the district, FUSD still has 15 fewer schools than it needs to serve its current
population. To reduce overcrowding and complete repairs and upgrades to aging schools, we
must:
- Repair outdated plumbing and bathrooms
- Make schools and classrooms accessible to handicapped students as required
by law
- Improve school air-conditioning
- Improve traffic flow at schools
- Build libraries in schools that currently have none
- Build and equip additional elementary schools
Making Local Schools Better Helps Everyone
Fontana area schools have made progress in the academic success of
its students - test scores are up and
student performance is improving. Building and equipping new schools and
repairing and upgrading our old schools will provide healthy and safe learning
environments for all of our children.
How do we do this?
We are in the process of identifying priorities to include in a fiscally
prudent Bond Measure, which could be presented to the community in the coming
months to help our schools. Among the fiscal protections which would be contained in any Proposition 39
Bond Measure are an independent Citizen's Oversight Committee to monitor any new
funds and no money for administrators' salaries.
